ロンドンインテリア～ ザ・コンランショップ in London ～
知っておくと数倍ロンドンの暮らしを楽しめる。イギリス・ロンドンで建築・インテリアを勉強中の河西里砂が、大学生としてデザインを学びながら、ロンドンのインテリアショップやレストラン、カフェ、展示会、ガーデンフェアなど各々のコンセプトや人気の秘密を探求し、レポートします。

今回は日本ではもちろんパリでも既にショップ展開で人気のあるザ・コンランショップをご紹介します。

サー・テレンス・コンランこだわりのインテリアショップ
Explore Sir Terence Conran's passion for his store
イギリス出身の家具・インテリアデザイナー、テレンス・コンラン。彼はその功績をエリザベス女王により評価され、Sirの称号（卿）を授けられました。その彼によりデザインまたは厳選されたインテリア商品が並ぶ、ロンドンでも人気の高いザ・コンランショップ。
The Conran Shop is a popular furniture store, which is opened by the British designer Sir Terence Conran, who is the lead designer for all its furniture and products. Due to the success towards his designs, Queen Elizabeth II has acknowledged his commitment towards British design by addressing him with the prestigious title of ‘Sir', hence Sir Terence Conran.
イギリスに２店舗ある内の一つでロンドンにある、メリルボーン店。天窓や大きい窓を設けることで自然光を取り込み、明るく柔らかな印象の店内を演出しています。
The Marylebone branch in Central London is one of the two branches in England. With the use of natural light, this store features a large skylight and numerous display windows to provide a comfortable atmosphere for its customers.
店内1 階のカフェ。洗濯物の様にティータオルを吊るす粋なインテリアは、コンランがこだわっている商品のディスプレイの一つです。一つ一つの商品が特性を活かせる場所と状態にあるように気遣われています。
The store has its own café featuring a homely atmosphere, with hung tea towels and kitchen utensils as decorations. Sir Terence Conran has shown his passion through his presentation for functionality through his products.
人々のライフスタイルそのものをデザインすることをモットーにするコンランのこだわりが、このスペースで遊ぶ子供たちを想像できるように、そこによく表れています。カフェのティータオルと同様に、どんな人がどんな状況で使うのかをしっかりプレゼンテーションしているのです。
Conran's aim is to provide the ideal lifestyle for its users. Just like in this image featuring a children's bed. Conran presents playful decorations with hung t-shirts and toys, where you could imagine children playing in this ideal environment. The way he presents this space is similar to the café design.
現在も尚、トップを走るコンランは常に人々のライフスタイルそのものをデザインすることを模索し、既存の良いものは認めて、理想があれば作りながらそれ表現しようとしています。そんな彼の追及はこれからもされていきメリルボーン店を介してロンドンの人々に新たなライフスタイルデザインを提案していくのです。
To this day, Sir Terence Conran is one of the most respected British designers. His aspiration for the ideal lifestyle is seen throughout his work for high quality products and design.
今回、私が感銘を受けたのは子供部屋のエリアでした。写真にある、テントの形をした子供部屋用の家具。秘密基地のようだけれども、孤立せずに家族とコミュニケーションをとり、子供が自分の好きな物を親に自慢気に話している。そんなライフスタイルを持つ親子が想像できました。デザイン性や色味だけでなく、どのように他者とコミュニケーションをとるか考えるインテリアデザイン、それがコンランが目指しているライフスタイルデザインなのではないでしょうか。
Through my research, I can be defined what lifestyle design is. At the picture of kids' furniture, the yellow tent looks like secret station for kids but would not shut down opportunity for making communication with others. I can imagine how kids communicate their parents; children are talking about their favourite toys to their parents from the tent.Probably, that imagination is very important for lifestyle design. I think lifestyle design is the exploration how to communicate with others.

ロンドン在住。三重県出身で高校時代から美術・デザインを学び、最終的に建築・インテリアを専攻。インテリアデザインのスキルを学ぶためK & Y INTERIOR DESIGN SCHOOL に2013年に入学し同年に卒業。現在は建築・インテリアを学ぶためロンドン芸術大学に留学中。K & Y INTERIOR DESIGN SCHOOL 卒業生
